Lake Gregory, also known as Gregory Lake or Gregory Reservoir, is a man-made lake in the heart of the beautiful city, Nuwara Eliya. It was constructed during the period of British Governor Sir William Gregory in 1873.
Little England or Nuwara Eliya is one of the most favorite destinations among locals. The city is the coldest and highest of Sri Lanka with picturesque beauty and a cold climate. There are so many exciting places to visit in the Nuwara Eliya area and it is a tourist hotspot. The scenic lake located in the heart of the city. You can stop by the lake to feel the cold breeze and chill in the air. But that’s not it. The picturesque view is worth every second of it. The horses, happy families, and children who enjoy the park around the lake are a common sight.
It is a great thing that the authorities have developed the area around the lake for tourism purposes. A well-maintained lawn and flower beds in the park are an absolute delight to the eye. There is parking, resting, and dining facilities available in the area. It is beneficial for those who love to enjoy the view and the lake for some time. Having to pay for a ticket to enter the park is worth it as the facilities are quite good and it helps authorities to maintain the premises. But also, it helps the locals to earn a livelihood by selling items such as snacks, clothes, and toys for kids. Water sports and boat rides are some fun activities for thrill-loving people. Some locals offer ponies, and horses ride by the lake.
While many locals are taking good care of their animals and love them. However, we would like to request you not to support those who may be abusing these innocent animals by ill-treating and overworking.
